Before We Get It

Wastewater is water you have already used to wash dishes and clothes, take a bath, or go to the bathroom. After water goes down a sink or toilet in metropolitan Denver, it takes less than 36 hours to get to us through sewer systems, be treated, and get released so that others can use it again.

We DO NOT get water from gutters and storm drains – this goes directly into streams and rivers which feed into lakes. It’s important to keep pet waste, fertilizer, pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze and other pollutants OUT of gutters and storm drains.
