    Farm Maintenance Plan: Roads

The 4-Mile Road expansion was a major project earlier this summer and throughout the fall. The road was resurfaced with recycled asphalt. Three culverts were installed along the road to improve drainage, and to reduce the risk of sheet and rill erosion. In addition to the culverts, three new 8000-pound cattle guards were installed. These cattle guards are easier to keep clean and maintain. To complete the expansion portion of this project, the shoulders were seeded with a grass mixture. This was an effort to establish buffers that in the future will be maintained by mowing.

A new fence was also constructed that follows along the east side of 4-Mile Road.

The Skyline Road project has also been a major project on the South Property of METROGRO Farm. With the improvements to 4-Mile Road, blind spots and steep shoulder drop-offs along Skyline Road were created. Crews are in the process to improve safety with a longer range of visibility, reduce steep grades and shoulder drop-offs, and to minimize areas that trap snow and weeds. With these improvements, there will be a reduction in soil erosion due to wind and run-off.

Roads are an important contributor to everyday safety at the METROGRO Farm. Road projects and maintenance are a constant priority to the Farm Maintenance Plan.
