    Biosolids Application Plan: Biosolids Testing

The biosolids are continually monitored at the Metro District's treatment facility. The parameters that are monitored are included in the table below:
    Biosolids Testing Parameters

    Nutrients

    Metals*

    Nitrate-Nitrogen Arsenic
    Ammonia-Nitrogen Cadmium
    Organic Nitrogen Copper
    Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen Lead
    Total Phosphorus Mercury
    pH Molybdenum
    Total Solids Nickel
    Total Volatile Solids Selenium
      Zinc
    * Total and Available Metals are analyzed
Because most of the nitrogen is bound within the organic matter of biosolids, a factor of 20 percent is used for calculating the amount of total nitrogen that will be available for the first year. Averaging 7.0 percent total nitrogen (dry weight basis), the available nitrogen is calculated as follows:

    (2000 lbs. per dry ton) X (0.070 total N in biosolids) X (0.20 N availability) = 28 lbs. available N per dry ton biosolids
