    Farming Plan

The METROGRO Farm Management Plan has several individual sections that when compiled; make up the Plan in its entirety. The four sub-sections that are included in the Farming Plan Section are: Crops, Erosion Control, Weed Control, and Grazing.

The 2005 – 2006 crop yields were negatively impacted by the dry, harsh winds throughout the winter, above normal temperatures in June, poor timing of precipitation and continued drought. Areas on the METROGRO Farm where winter wheat did not survive were replanted with a spring crop. The spring crops were harvested and the haygrazer was baled for livestock feed. The corn was sold to Cargill in Byers, CO. The stubble was left for ground cover and erosion control. Due to the increased use of chemical fallow throughout the METROGRO Farm, ground cover has increased, resulting in greater water holding capacity of the soil. This proved to be beneficial to the spring crops and a good dryland corn crop was raised.

A summary of the 2006 crop harvest is shown in Table 1:

    Table 1: 2005-2006 Crop Summary
