Farm Maintenance Plan
The activities associated with routine land application of biosolids at the METROGRO Farm require a Maintenance Plan in order to address and prevent issues before they become problems. Road buffers and culverts are utilized in several locations throughout the METROGRO Farm because of their significant impact in controlling wind, sheet and rill erosion. However, additional routine maintenance is required and so they are also listed here.
Routine Farm Maintenance
- Internal roads: blade to eliminate ruts, add gravel to soft spots and spray with water to minimize dust; magnesium chloride may also be used in an effort to control dust.
- Perimeter fence and gate repair/replacement as needed.
- Cattle guard cleanout.
- Blade ditches and culverts to keep them open.
- Blade stock ponds for efficient water retention.
- Facility and grounds upkeep.
Current Improvement Projects
- Installation of a 10,000 gallon fuel tank at the METROGRO Farm Maintenance Shop.
Special Concerns and Management Approach
- Gates, locks and property signs continue to be problematic. Routine inventory checks and replacement occur on a regular basis.
