Tours
Bring your group to the Metro District plant for a tour that will show them what happens after they flush.
The tours take place outside and last just about an hour and a half. Visitors experience the sights, sounds --and smells-- of wastewater treatment. They learn how the Metro District recycles wastewater, biosolids and methane. They come away with a solid understanding of how water can be reclaimed, how we make a soil amendment product from solids we recover, and how we produce electricity from a renewable resource.
The tour is highly recommended for students who are studying or have studied water. It is also excellent for those studying earth sciences, biology, or chemistry. Tours of the Laboratory can be arranged for small groups of college students or advanced high school chemistry or biology students. Seeing the Lab adds about 30 minutes and must be arranged in advance. Tours for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, environmental youth groups, and other interested groups can also be considered accommodated on a case-by-case basis. on evenings and weekends.
Tours are available for students 6th grade and older when they are accompanied by one adult for each 10 students. Visitors MUST wear closed-toe shoes for safety while on Metro District property. Visitors must also dress appropriately for the weather they will be exposed to while on the tour. Classroom materials are available in lieu of tours for younger students upon request.
To arrange a tour, call the Metro District Assistant Public Information Officer at 303-286-3000. Please call to schedule tours at least 2-3 weeks in advance of your desired date. The earlier you call, the better your opportunity to see this exciting environmental process firsthand.
