Public Concerns about Biosolids
The Metro District complies with federal, state and local regulations and follows the best management practices related to the treatment of wastewater and land application of its biosolids. The Metro District promotes a standard of excellence as demonstrated in our EMS for Biosolids and assures the public that there is proper oversight of these processes on a day-to-day basis. Metro District staff emphasizes the importance of providing information to the public regarding our work at the Metro District, and encourages you to visit all areas of our web site.
As part of the EMS for Biosolids, the Metro District established a Citizen Participation Group that meets with staff regularly to provide feedback and voice concerns related to biosolids activities.
The following are several web sites that provide additional information regarding the wastewater and biosolids industry on a national level.

Water Environment Federation (WEF) http://wef.org
National Biosolids Partnership (NBP) http://biosolids.org/ems_main.asp
National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) http://nacwa.org (formerly AMSA)
Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association (RMWEA) http://www.rmwea.org
Other water and wastewater treatment plant web sites can be found at the Water-Wastewater Plant Directory Web Site – http://www.w-ww.com/plants/
As part of the Metro District’s public outreach program to keep the public informed of issues, there are web sites outside the wastewater industry that provide information and opinions regarding public concerns on the beneficial use of biosolids. Listed below are some of those web sites:
National Research Council (NRC) – http://www.nas.edu/nrc/
In July 2002 the NRC performed a study on Biosolids Applied To Land: Advancing Standards and Practices (see http://books.nap.edu/books/0309084865/html/index.htm, for a copy of the study).
As a follow up to the study, a national biosolids summit was held to discuss scientific research needed to address concerns raised by the NRC (for details regarding the summit, see http://www.werf.org/press/news_events.cfm#biosummary )
National Sludge Alliance (NSA) – http://www.ejnet.org/sludge/
Cornell Waste Management Institute (Cornell WMI) – http://www.cfe.cornell.edu/wmi
